Emery O – Kids Portrait Session

The wonderful world of Facebook has brought me back in touch with a friend from highschool. Kelly was in the process of putting together a portrait wall of her beautiful children and asked if I would be willing to photograph her daughter. Emery was excited to get started. Mom was telling her to “smile with her eyes” and to move this hand, move that foot… Apparently, mom had done a bit of modeling in the past. I was happy that she was there to help out. All in all, everyone was thrilled with the images we captured that day.

Sarah E – Bishop Hartley Senior Class of 2010

Sarah came to me in the spring for senior pictures.  We completed a few in studio shots and as we prepared to venture outside the sky opened up and began to rain cats and dogs.

She called me over the summer and said  that she had changed her hair color and would really like another session to feature  the new look.  We picked a crisp september afternoon at Hanna Park in Gahanna.  I think we really captured her new look (and her new attitude).

Sarah is on her way to Ohio University in Athens in the fall.  Best of luck to her!

Pelotonia 2009

Well, sadly Pelotonia 2009 is half over. Most of the riders were working on 25, 50 or 100 miles today but a handful (about 500) will be getting up at 6:00am on Sunday to finish for a total of 180 miles. It was inspiring to see the mass outpouring of support and commitment from the staff, volunteers and riders this morning.

Friday night’s Opening Ceremony included a video tribute to cancer survivors. As soon as it’s posted online I will post a link. It’s well worth watching.

Here are a few images from Friday and Saturday.

Balloons and Tunes Saturday Dawn

Balloons & Tunes 2009 at Beulah Park started out a little rough. I arrived this morning to completely clear star filled skies. As the sun started to rise you could see haze beginning to build to the west. The organizers “stalled” things along for about an hour past the scheduled launch time. They made one last weather check at 7:30 and gave everyone the thumbs up to light the sky.

There were about 20 balloons this morning. These are a few of my favorites. More to come.

Mushrooms in the yard

I have seen wild mushrooms before, these were nothing new except for the fact that they are in my front yard. I was getting ready to mow the grass before the Africa like heats builds when I noticed patches of mushrooms pluming from the lawn. Not one, two but probably 8 different patches! The more i started looking at them the more beautiful they became. I grabbed the Canon 5DMII and my 100mm 2.8 Macro and went to work.

I originally shot these with the B&W Picture Style within the camera but was surprised to see that they were in color when I imported them into Lightroom. I’m new to LR so maybe this is normal. I ran a few actions to soften the color and add a vignette, dropped them on my blog template and here you are.

Now, I really have to mow the grass.

Chihuly Reimagined Exhibit

The Franklin Park Conservatory is hosting a Chihuly Glass Exhibit labeled “Reimagined”. They have done an amazing job of integrating the glassworks into the landscape of the conservatory. If you are in Columbus, it’s a must see. The exhibit leaves us in March of 2010 so there’s plenty of time to get out and see it.
